Patna to construct a transport campus worth Rs 1.64 billion near the airport

As reported, at an estimated cost of Rs 1.64 billion, the Bihar Government has planned to construct a transport complex at a location close to the Patna Airport – in Phulwarisharif. Set to be developed over 28 acres, the complex will accommodate the office of the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation (BSRTC) along with its regional office, a district transport office, bus depot, driving-learning testing centre, residential colony for staff and a fuel station.

Bihar State Building Construction Corporation (BSBCCL) has been charged with the responsibility to construct the premise and is expected to begin work early next year after obtaining the necessary environmental clearances from the National Green Tribunal.

Reportedly, the bus depot within the complex is only stated to be used by the city service buses, as Interstate Bus Terminal (ISBT) is being developed at Bairiya Chak on Patna-Gaya road for interstate, inter-district and other long route buses to ply from. At present, there is a bus depot at Bankipore which will be shut down once the upcoming depot is fully developed.

Additionally, it has also been reported that while the driving testing centre and filing station will only consist of a ground floor, other building are set to come up as multi storey structures. The BSRTC building will have a ground floor plus four floors, the six-block residential colonies will have a ground floor plus five floors and the DTO building will have a ground floor plus three floors.

It is estimated that the project will finish in a span of 1.5 years after the date of commencement.

Since the complex is near the airport, BSBCCL will ensure that the height of the building is within the permissible range. The department will be required to get the clearance for all the buildings from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), Patna.

Reportedly, the premise is going to be green space, equipped with rainwater harvesting, water treatment plant, solar panels and a sewer treatment plant. Apart from this, it will also have a high-speed Wi-Fi zone.
