Delhi Airport: G20 Flights Cancelled, Parking Assured

As the G20 Summit draws closer, the Delhi International Airport  (DIAL), under the leadership of the GMR Group, has announced that airlines have submitted requests to cancel 80 departing and 80 arriving domestic flights across three days, starting from September 8. This move has been attributed to anticipated traffic restrictions during the prestigious event.

However, DIAL is keen to reassure the public that the airport is well-equipped to handle the situation. With ample aircraft parking space available, the airport stands ready to accommodate the needs arising from the G20 Summit.

In a statement, DIAL clarified, "We take immense pride in India's role as the host of the G20 Summit 2023. Current news on cancellation of flights has no linkage to parking of aircraft. We have already provided the required parking. Decisions on cancellations have been taken by airlines possibly in light of traffic restrictions due to the G20 Summit."

The airport operator further highlighted, "We would like to assure all the travellers that Delhi airport is fully equipped with ample parking space for aircraft. So far, we have received requests for cancellation of approximately 80 departing and 80 arriving domestic flights over three days, which is mere 6 per cent of the normal domestic operations at the airport. The restrictions will not cause any impact on international flights."

While acknowledging that around 80 arrivals and 80 departures may be influenced by these cancellations, DIAL expressed its commitment to collaborating closely with airlines to minimise any inconvenience experienced by passengers.

A spokesperson from DIAL reiterated the airport's stance, saying, "Our priority remains the well-being and convenience of our passengers. We are dedicated to working hand in hand with airlines to ensure a smooth travel experience, even amidst these challenges posed by the G20 Summit arrangements."
