Guwahati Airport Sets New Cargo Handling Record

The Guwahati International Airport Limited (GIAL) domestic cargo terminal at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport (LGBIA) has posted its highest-ever monthly throughput, handling 952 metric tonnes of cargo in July. This surpasses the previous record of 841 metric tonnes, representing a 13.2 per cent increase in overall cargo volume.
A GIAL spokesperson attributed the growth primarily to a 15.26 per cent surge in inbound cargo, with Delhi and Bengaluru emerging as the top contributors. The expansion reflects the terminal’s enhanced operational efficiency and its growing role as a key logistics hub for Northeast India.
On the outbound front, Agartala and Imphal led cargo movement, followed by Delhi, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Kolkata. Outbound cargo volumes rose 5.24 per cent, underscoring the airport’s strategic role in linking the region’s goods with major metropolitan markets nationwide.
Officials credited the achievement to streamlined processes, a committed workforce, and a customer-centric approach that consistently meets stakeholder expectations. With infrastructure upgrades underway and a focus on operational excellence, GIAL aims to set further benchmarks in cargo handling, strengthening LGBIA’s position as a premier cargo gateway for Northeast India and fostering regional connectivity and economic growth.
