Ranchi Airport Rises to Fifth in AAI Passenger Satisfaction Survey

Birsa Munda International Airport in Ranchi surged from 34th to 5th place in the Airports Authority of India’s (AAI) passenger satisfaction survey, achieving a score of 4.96 out of 5. Enhanced services, improved cleanliness, and better taxi access contributed to this rise, though challenges remain in parking capacity and wider flight connectivity.
The airport made a remarkable jump in the recent half-yearly AAI ranking of 62 airports nationwide. The survey, conducted from January to June 2025, rated Ranchi airport highly across various passenger comfort criteria, including parking, baggage trolley availability, staff behaviour, seating, toilet quality, and overall waiting times. This marks a significant improvement from its 4.69 rating in the July–December 2024 period, and an even greater rise from the 4.25 score in the first half of the previous year.
Ranchi Airport Director R. R. Mourya credited this success to passenger feedback and the airport’s proactive response. A key issue—the lack of reliable taxi services—was resolved through a partnership with a cab aggregator on 14 July. Additional initiatives included launching an on-site ambulance service for emergencies, boosting cleanliness and hygiene standards, increasing baggage trolley availability, and enhancing courteous check-in procedures. The airport continues to address other passenger concerns.
“We are grateful to our passengers for their candid feedback, which has guided our improvements and helped us achieve this ranking. Our mission now is to maintain this position and aim even higher,” said Director Mourya.
With this recent success, Ranchi airport aims to retain its top-five standing. Ongoing efforts focus on relieving parking pressures and expanding route connectivity, potentially enabling smoother travel from Ranchi to destinations across India.
