First double decker flyover in Patna to be wrapped up in three years

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar laid foundation stones for a 3.5 km long first double-decker flyover of Rs 422 crore in Patna, which will be completed in three years.

Double-decker flyover from Kargil Chowk to Science College via Patna Medical College Hospital (PMCH) on the historic Ashok Rajpath in Patna will be the first double-decker flyover in Patna and the second in Bihar.

The first double-decker flyover of a total length of 3.5 km in Bihar, which is India’s longest double-decker flyover, is coming up in Chapra town of Saran district. The CM also inaugurated the construction work commencement for the first two-tier flyover in Patna.

Nitish said the double-decker flyover would be completed in the next three years.

He said due to the non-availability of land in its vicinity, the Bihar government decided to construct this two-tier flyover as widening of the existing Ashok Rajpath was not possible.

Construction of this flyover became essential because of the rising traffic congestion on the Ashok Rajpath, Nitish said.

The PMCH was being developed into a world-class hospital in the state capital, and this two-tier flyover would also join the PMCH’s proposed multi-level parking, the CM said.

The PMCH will be a 5400-bed hospital once upgraded. Work for upgrading the PMCH has already begun. The PMCH visiting people would have more convenience after completion of this double-decker flyover.

As per the CM’s directions, the width of the intended two-tier flyover will be decreased a little in front of the library to save its George Curzon reading hall from demolition, an official of the Bihar Rajya Pul Nirman Nigam Limited (BRPNNL) told the media.

The total length of tier-1 will be 1.50 km that is from Science College to Kargil Chowk, while that of tier-2 will be 2.20 km that is from Kargil Chowk to Science College. Each tier of the flyover will have a two-lane road, Khurshid Karim, senior project manager of the BRPNNL told the media.

According to BRPNNL officials, the longest double-decker flyover is 1.8 km in Mumbai at present.
