45-Metre Segmental Bridge Launched Over Kalupur Flyover

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project has completed the launching of a viaduct over the Kalupur flyover in Amdavad district. The operation delivered a 45 metre (m) segmental bridge across the Railway Over Bridge on the Sabarmati?Mumbai main line and forms part of the elevated corridor for the high speed corridor. The work was carried out under the project management office responsible for corridor construction.

The span was launched using the span?by?span method and comprises a 45 m length over the flyover with a viaduct height of 19.5 m from ground to rail level. The span was erected from 19 precast segments and the completed unit weighs about 1200 tonne (t). The viaduct runs parallel to the existing railway line and was positioned with engineered dry matching and adhesive joining procedures.

The Kalupur flyover is one of Amdavad's busiest two?lane flyovers and provides an important link between Shahibaug, Asarwa and Kalupur used daily by thousands of commuters. Span erection activities were planned and executed under a controlled night block schedule with complete closure of entry and exit points during night hours from midnight to six, while normal traffic movement beneath the flyover was restored during daytime. Safety measures and traffic management were put in place to reduce inconvenience to the public.

Permission for the night traffic blocks was obtained from the Ahmedabad Traffic Department for the period from 22 May to 25 May 2026 and within the limited block duration key operations including auto?launching, segment transportation, span erection, dry matching and gluing were completed successfully in three nights. The project team implemented barricading, traffic diversion signage, advance public information, deployment of adequate traffic marshals in day and night shifts and sufficient lighting arrangements for nocturnal operations. The Mumbai?Ahmedabad corridor passes over 31 crossings in Ahmedabad district which includes IR crossings (eight), canals (16), one river bridge at the Sabarmati River, road flyovers and six steel bridges and work on 23 crossings has already been completed.
