Arunachal Pradesh minister Kento Jini has urged the Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari to entrust the Akajan-Likabali-Bame Strategic Road Project to the Border Roads Organisation, arguing that the agency has the expertise and experience to execute and maintain the vital border corridor. He thanked the Union government for declaring the road strategic and said the project would significantly strengthen connectivity, national security and the socio-economic development of Arunachal Pradesh’s seven border districts. The appeal was made in a formal letter seeking timely and effective implementation. Jini described the Akajan-Likabali-Bame Road as an umbilical cord that sustains and nourishes life and economic activities in the border areas and said that such character made it more than an ordinary highway. He underlined that BRO possesses unmatched experience in constructing and maintaining infrastructure in challenging border terrain, making it the most suitable agency to implement and maintain the strategically important project. He suggested that BRO’s operational presence in difficult and sensitive regions would ensure quality and continuity of maintenance. He pointed out that the road had been originally constructed, developed and maintained by BRO before its implementation was transferred to the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited in 2014-15. Given BRO’s proven credentials and deep-rooted presence, he argued the organisation was best placed to deliver high-quality work in a timely manner and to maintain the corridor for years to come. The minister emphasised that the strategic nature of the route required an organisation with demonstrated capability to safeguard national security and to support sustained regional development. Jini therefore requested designation of BRO as the implementing and maintenance agency for the Akajan-Likabali-Bame project and expressed confidence that a favourable intervention by the Centre would greatly contribute to the timely realisation of this nationally significant infrastructure initiative. He reiterated the appeal in a post on X in which he described the road as a lifeline for the state’s border districts.
