Botched BTM Layout Pothole Repairs Spark Fury in Bengaluru

Residents of 2nd Phase, BTM Layout, Bengaluru, are expressing outrage over the shoddy pothole repair work undertaken by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). They claim that the repairs, done using low-quality tar, have actually made the road more dangerous for commuters, especially two-wheelers.

Residents' Concerns:

Increased Risk for Two-Wheelers: While the potholes themselves may not be deep, the residents argue that the loose gravel and uneven surface pose a significant risk for two-wheelers, increasing the chances of accidents. Naveen, a resident, stated, "Multiple accidents involving two wheelers have taken place in the past due to these potholes. This is the reason we raised the complain with BBMP. However, the situation has become even more dangerous after repair."

Loose Gravel Threatens All Vehicles and Pedestrians: The residents also highlighted the danger posed by the loose gravel, which scatters at high speeds when vehicles hit it. This poses a threat to not only two-wheelers but also other vehicles and pedestrians, who risk skidding if they brake suddenly.

Ineffective Repair Method: Residents claim that the BBMP workers used a jelly and m-sand mix for the repairs, which has already started to crumble and come loose. They believe a concrete mixture would have been a more durable and effective solution.

Lack of Action by BBMP: Despite raising the issue with BBMP officials, residents say no action has been taken to address the problem. They are frustrated by the lack of accountability and the potential safety hazards posed by the shoddy repairs.

BBMP's Response:

When contacted by a media outlet, BBMP officials acknowledged the issue and promised to rectify it soon. They claimed that the jelly and m-sand mix was used as a temporary solution, and the potholes will be permanently repaired using tar mix shortly.

Residents Remain Skeptical:

Despite BBMP's assurances, residents remain skeptical. They have witnessed similar promises in the past that have not materialized, and they are concerned that the repairs may not be done to a satisfactory standard. They urge the authorities to take immediate action to address the issue and ensure the safety of all road users.

This incident highlights the ongoing struggle faced by Bengaluru residents with poor road infrastructure and inadequate maintenance. It also raises questions about the accountability of BBMP and the effectiveness of its repair methods.
