According to a statement from the defense ministry, the BRO is set to commence construction on the 4.10-km long Shinkun La Tunnel. Upon completion, this tunnel will claim the title of the world's highest tunnel at 15,800 ft, surpassing China's Mila Tunnel at 15,590 ft.

An event took place in New Delhi to mark the occasion, presided over by the defence secretary.

He mentioned the organisation's forthcoming role in the Vibrant Villages Programme, aimed at the holistic development of select border villages.

Aramane described the BRO as an extremely crucial organization, highlighting its role in bolstering national security through infrastructure projects in border regions while fostering socio-economic progress in remote areas.
