Delhi Govt Initiates Rs Six Billion Road Project Along Najafgarh Drain

The Delhi government has initiated a Rs six billion road development project to improve connectivity and transform the area along the Najafgarh Drain, also known as the Sahibi river, into a green corridor. The plan involves constructing 60.77 kilometres of new roads, including a 5.94-kilometre two-lane road on the left bank from Jhatikra Bridge to Chhawla Bridge, and two-lane roads on both banks from Chhawla Bridge to Basaidarapur Bridge, covering 54.83 kilometres.

The corridor will connect with key arterial roads such as the Inner Ring Road (Basai Darapur), Outer Ring Road (Keshavpur), Pankha Road (Vikaspuri), Najafgarh Road (Kakrola), and Dwarka Expressway, enhancing regional access and easing congestion.

The project will also promote environmental sustainability by adding greenery, public toilets, street furniture, boundary walls, and signage. It aims to benefit residents of areas including Punjabi Bagh, Paschim Vihar, Nilothi, Baprola, Kakrola, Najafgarh, Dwarka, Vikaspuri, and Chhawla. Work is expected to begin soon.
