Dwarka Expressway: DPR of service roads to be finally ready

The detailed project report (DPR) for the service roads construction on either side of the Dwarka Expressway is finally ready, over two years after the project was approved.

The roads are likely to benefit residents of sectors along the stretch by providing connectivity to the expressway. Now, the DPR will be discussed in the next authority meeting of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA).

The DPR was discussed with officials from the infrastructure-1 division during a core planning cell (CPC) of the GMDA meeting that was held last week, as per the officials.

During the CPC meeting last week, the DPR was prepared and a presentation was given in this regard.

A senior GMDA official said that the chief executive officer (CEO) directed that the presentation be given in the next authority meeting for DPR approval.

Although a date has not been fixed for the next authority meeting of the GMDA yet, officials said it would take place by this month's end. The last meeting was held in December 2021.

In December 2020, the proposal to build a service road on either side of the expressway was approved in the seventh GMDA authority meeting.

Keeping in mind the fact that a lot of development has happened alongside the stretch, with several institutional and housing projects also in advanced stages, a proposal was tabled to build 7.5 m-wide service roads within the 30 m utility corridor specified for the expressway.

Officials said that it would connect various sectors and also provide intra-city connectivity. Now, the service roads will be situated between the point where the Dwarka Expressway intersects with the Central Peripheral Road (CPR) and the Delhi-Haryana border near Choma village, as per the DPR. The service roads will be 15.3 km long and 7.5 m wide. The project will cost about Rs 119.2 crore.

The project also comprises the retaining walls construction to support the service roads at Rs 17.6 crore. In addition, the construction of a drain and footpath will also take place.
