Experts summoned to solve the problem of landslides in Tirumala

Major pilgrim centre Tirumala hills, Andhra Pradesh, faced heavy rainfalls that triggered landslides on the hills on Wednesday. According to officials, the ghat roads have been damaged, so that at least three to four weeks will be required for repair.

Expert engineering help has been sought from IIT Delhi and Chennai by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), responsible for managing the temple of Lord Venkateshwara in Tirumala. The road is used by thousands daily. The goal is to search for a solution that will eliminate the possibilities of future landslides.

A meeting was held by TTD trust board chairman, Mr Y V Subba Reddy, with ITT experts and engineers on Friday. It was brought into notice that the second ghat road and its retaining walls will be restored by the end of this month.

Furthermore, the engineers are asked to develop measures that will protect the caved part of the hill from landslides.

The TTD chairman further mentioned that the parts identified as potential threats will be removed or sealed with chemical technology. As the safety of pilgrims is the most important thing, they are willing to spend the money required. The TTD chairman said.

An expert team was on the landslide area to inspect the causes and rocks. The report is expected to be submitted by Tuesday.

Delhi IIT, K S Rao stated that an expert from Delhi IIT, K S Rao stated that an uncommon rainfall that lasted over a week caused the landslides. Extensive damage was caused as the rolled-down rocks weighed around 30 to 40 tonne individually.

Landslides resulted from rains back in 2017, but this time they caused more damage.
