Ghaziabad civic body to invest Rs 25 cr to revamp 10 major roads

The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) will invest Rs 25 crore to redevelop 10 major roads in the city, including GT Road, Delhi to Meerut Road, Hapur Road, and Loni to Wazirabad Road.

The municipal corporation will spend about Rs 25 crore in the coming months to revamp major city roads used for inter-district or interstate vehicle movement. According to sources familiar with the situation, the project will begin by the end of September and will entail the development of approximately 75 to 100 km of the road network, including 10 major roads under the corporation's jurisdiction.

Corporation officials told the media that among the 10 roads are sections of GT Road, Delhi to Meerut Road, Hapur Road, and Loni to Wazirabad Road. The funds allocated under the 15th finance commission will be used for the redevelopment.

The corporation has also decided to use perforated tiles on pavements and develop patches of greenery in nearby open spaces to reduce pollution caused by road dust.

Several potholes have formed on many internal and arterial roads in Ghaziabad as a result of the ongoing monsoon season's heavy rainfall.

Rajendra Tyagi, councillor from Raj Nagar told the media that Heavy rains during the monsoon season wreaked havoc on city roads, and pandemic related development and repair projects were also pushed back. Internal roads, in addition to major roads, require immediate repair. In addition to the development of major roads, the corporation must prioritise the development of internal roads.

Officials told the media that once the monsoon season is over, work on repairing internal roads will begin.
