GHMC Clears Major Road and Flyover Expansion Plans for Hyderabad

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) held its eighth meeting at the Command Control Room on February 20, approving several key infrastructure and development projects across the city. One of the major decisions included the acquisition of over 380 properties to facilitate the construction of multi-level flyovers and road expansions at KBR Park, Jubilee Hills, Khajaguda, and other key junctions.

Additionally, Rs 250 million per zone has been allocated for developmental works, including the enhancement of parks and sports facilities in Hyderabad. The committee also sanctioned a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for 5.37 acre of government land to the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) for the construction of the Midhani Bus Station and Depot. The lease extension for the Telangana Government Special Protection Force at Buddha Bhavan was also approved.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Lighthouse Community Foundation was approved to implement a training initiative aimed at skill development for unemployed youth and women at the Borabanda GHMC Community Hall. Several other projects received approval, including Rs 220.17 million for the construction of a floodwater canal at Banjara Hills, Rs 60 million for a 100 mm pipeline from Chilukanagar to Kaveri Nagar, and Rs 30.09 million for e-office application work through RailTel Corporation India Limited. Furthermore, Rs 20.26 million was sanctioned for procuring 1,600 CCMS boxes, and administrative approval was granted for a Rs 70.4 million RCC box drain project from Darussalam to Chaknawadi culvert.

Discussions in the meeting also covered sanitation, street lighting, and the development of sports grounds. The need for an efficient tax collection drive, particularly targeting corporate schools, was also highlighted.

Previously, the GHMC council had approved an estimated budget of Rs 84.40 billion for 2025-26, with a revised budget of Rs 81.18 billion for 2024-25.
