Gujarat govt allocates Rs 2.55 billion for road projects

The Gujarat government has approved Rs 2.55 billion for road development projects in Surat, Rajkot, and Gandhinagar under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana. Announced by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, the funding aims to improve urban infrastructure in these cities.

Out of the total allocation, the Surat Municipal Corporation will receive Rs 1.81 billion for 579 projects, covering road widening, new road construction, footpaths, cement concrete roads, and road resurfacing. The Rajkot Municipal Corporation has been allocated Rs 607.8 billion for 12 road projects, while Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation will receive Rs 128.4 million for road renovation works.

The Swarnim Jayanti Mukhya Mantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana is designed to support municipalities in constructing new roads and upgrading existing ones to improve connectivity and road safety.

Over the past four years, the state has sanctioned Rs 7.4 billion for 1,493 projects in Surat, Rs 1.68 billion for 29 projects in Rajkot, and Rs 576.8 billion for seven projects in Gandhinagar, totaling Rs 9.61 billion for urban road infrastructure across these cities.

This latest funding approval will accelerate urban infrastructure development and further enhance the quality of road networks in Gujarat’s major cities. (ET)
