Nagpur Gets Rs 9 Billion Nod For Phase V Cement Road Project

The Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) has received state approval for Phase V of its cement road project, with a sanctioned budget of Rs 9 billion. The plan will convert 135 major tar roads, spanning 89.22 km, into durable concrete stretches.
This phase will connect strategically with roads constructed in Phase IV and integrate rainwater harvesting systems to mitigate urban flooding and boost groundwater recharge. Officials noted that the project not only enhances road durability but also forms part of a wider urban resilience strategy.
Zone-wise allocations highlight both political support and local planning. The Ashi Nagar zone leads with 22 roads covering 16.49 km, followed by Dharampeth with 15.36 km and Nehru Nagar with 12.48 km. Dharampeth’s inclusion was routed through the Chief Minister’s Office. Hanuman Nagar’s 7.94 km allocation had the backing of Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, while Gandhibagh’s 3.25 km plan was supported by MLA Narendra Borkar and local corporators.
Other allocations include 11.90 km in Mangalwari, 13.35 km in Lakadganj, 7.65 km in Laxminagar, and 6.80 km in Dhantoli. Officials emphasised that the project reflects a forward-looking approach to urban planning, combining infrastructure durability with climate-resilient measures.
