NHAI Plans Underpasses for Bengaluru

The proposed underpasses aim to streamline traffic flow on Ballari Road, a critical arterial route connecting the city to the Kempegowda International Airport and other key areas. The NHAI has identified significant choke points along this stretch and intends to deploy grade-separated intersections to resolve them. The initiative will focus on creating seamless connectivity, reducing delays, and enhancing safety for motorists and pedestrians alike.

The plan involves constructing underpasses at critical junctions, including Hebbal and Kodigehalli Cross, which are notorious for heavy congestion during peak hours. According to NHAI officials, these underpasses will facilitate uninterrupted movement for vehicles traveling along the airport road and adjoining areas. The project also includes service roads and improved signage to ensure smooth navigation for commuters.

The NHAI is currently conducting feasibility studies and traffic surveys to finalize the design and alignment of the underpasses. The project is expected to be implemented in phases to minimize disruptions to existing traffic. While timelines are yet to be confirmed, officials aim to expedite the planning and approval stages to initiate construction promptly.

Local residents and commuters have welcomed the move, anticipating significant relief from the city's notorious traffic snarls. However, there are concerns about the construction phase potentially exacerbating traffic problems. Authorities have assured that measures will be in place to manage traffic flow effectively during the construction period.

Once completed, the underpasses on Ballari Road are expected to enhance urban mobility, reduce travel time to the airport, and support Bengaluru's infrastructure demands, aligning with the city’s vision for sustainable and efficient urban development.

The Modern Coach Factory (MCF) in Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh, has reached a major production milestone with the manufacture of its 15,000th passenger coach on December 15, the Ministry of Railways said.
