Noida Restarts Construction of 5.6 Km Chilla Elevated Road

The Noida Authority has commenced construction on the 5.6km elevated road connecting Chilla in Delhi to the Mahamaya flyover in Noida. This project aims to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion on the Delhi-Noida Link Road, which experiences heavy vehicular movement, particularly during peak hours.

A foundation stone-laying ceremony was conducted to mark the resumption of construction, which had been delayed for over four years due to financial and logistical challenges. The project, now scheduled for completion within three years, has an estimated cost of Rs 8.93 billion.

The Uttar Pradesh State Bridge Corporation (UPSBCL) is responsible for executing the project, and a contractor was appointed in December 2024. Over the past three months, the contractor has submitted the road design for approval to IIT-Delhi and has begun mobilizing resources to start construction.

The elevated six-lane road will run parallel to the Shahdara drain and will feature five ramps and loops to facilitate smoother traffic movement. These ramps will provide access from Sector 14-15 towards the Mahamaya flyover, allow entry and exit at Sector 16, and include an additional exit at Sector 18 for vehicles from Delhi. The road is expected to significantly ease congestion between Sector 14A and the Mahamaya flyover while improving connectivity for commuters traveling towards Greater Noida, Sector 37, Kalindi Kunj, and Faridabad.

Initially proposed in 2012, the project faced multiple delays. It received approval from the Delhi government in 2018, and the foundation stone was laid in January 2019. However, funding issues from the public works department (PWD), realignment due to a GAIL gas pipeline, and disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic further hindered progress. Currently, only 13% of the project has been completed.
