The Kolkata metro rail has started its services to extend Kolkata's north-south metro line from Noapara to Dakshineswar. PM Narendra Modi inaugurated this metro line extension of 4.1 km. It will provide a fast, easy and pollution-free travel experience to the commuters in Kolkata and adjoining areas. It has reduced the traveling time between Dakshineswar and Kavi Subhash by 90 minutes. It has also brought a positive impact on the environment by reducing the number of vehicles on the roads and also improving traffic congestions in Kolkata. Under the Ministry of Railways, the Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) has undertaken major projects on behalf of Metro Railway and chose Hitachi Energy's MicroSCADA X, an advanced power automation and control solution for controlling power distributions, traction substations (TSS) and auxiliary substations. The SCADA systems will control the functions of the metro rail and enable the smooth running of the trains in the metro railway. This new extension will serve around 18 million commuters from Howrah, Hooghly and North 24 Parganas every year. It is expected to benefit students, academics and other visitors to the educational institutions near Baranagar station and tourists and devotees visiting Kali temple in Kalighat and Dakshineswar. The advanced MicroSCADA X system will be deployed at the Operation Control Center (OCC) and Backup Control Center (BCC) at the Metro Railway, Kolkata. The system is a future-proof solution with modern technology, including web and mobile access. It will also provide advanced cybersecurity safeguards as per its latest global standards. Hitachi Energy India, formerly known as ABB Power Products and Systems India Limited, has supplied remote terminal units and MicroSCADA systems to Baranagar TSS and Dakshineswar TSS. The company offers designing, supplying, erection, testing and commissioning the SCADA X system for 33 kV power distribution, TSS and auxiliary substations, with a 750 V direct current (DC) Third Rail Traction system in Joka-Majerhat and Airport-New Garia corridors.
