Bhopal Metro Phase 2 to Impact Fewer Properties

Bhopal’s second metro phase will affect one-third fewer properties than Phase 1, as per the social impact assessment and resettlement plan submitted to the government. The 14.14 km Blue Line, connecting Bhadbada Square to Ratnagiri, is set to commence construction before March-end.

The fully elevated corridor will primarily cause temporary dislocations. On Chiklod Road (Jehangirabad), a two-kilometre stretch will require removal of extending sheds during construction. In Barkhedi, another two-kilometre section will see 10-foot front sheds removed, with the possibility of reinstatement based on BMC and administrative policies.

Beyond these areas, the impact is minimal, with the assessment categorizing it into temporary shifting and permanent relocation. The private contractor has optimized the resettlement and rehabilitation (R&R) plan based on preliminary surveys conducted over the last five years.

The total R&R cost for the entire Bhopal Metro project is estimated at Rs 4.47 billion, governed by the RTFCTLARR Act, 2013.

Once completed, the Blue Line will feature 14 elevated stations along its 14.164 km route, running west to east from Bhadbada Square through Bhadbada Road, Jehangirabad Road, Chiklod Road, Pool Bogda Road, and Raisen Road, ending at Ratnagiri Tiraha.
