Bhubaneswar New Station Starts Three Express Trains to Ease Congestion

East Coast Railway has begun full-scale operations of three major express trains from the Bhubaneswar New Railway Station (BBSN) from 12 May 2025. The move aims to improve connectivity and reduce congestion at the Bhubaneswar Main Station.

The trains now operating from BBSN include the Mumbai–Bhubaneswar Konark Express, the Secunderabad–Bhubaneswar Visakha Express, and the Bhubaneswar–Visakhapatnam Intercity Express. All three were previously routed through the Bhubaneswar Main Station.

BBSN, located in northern Bhubaneswar, is expected to benefit residents of northern city zones, Cuttack, and Athagarh. Each train will halt for two minutes at Mancheswar Station and for twenty minutes at the main station, maintaining service for central commuters.

The Konark Express departs daily at 2:40 PM, the Visakha Express at 8:00 AM, and the Intercity Express at 7:15 AM. The initiative is part of East Coast Railway’s broader strategy to modernise infrastructure and decentralise operations, supporting sustainable urban development.

The move is projected to lower environmental impact, reduce crowding, and improve the overall passenger experience. BBSN is set to play a central role in Odisha’s expanding rail network.
