Bihar CM Sets 2028 Deadline for Patna Metro Completion

Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary has directed officials to complete the Patna Metro Rail project by 2028, while stressing that construction must meet prescribed quality and safety standards. He issued the instructions during an inspection of ongoing work along Nehru Path in Patna on Sunday.

Choudhary reviewed construction progress at several key locations, including the Income Tax roundabout, High Court roundabout and the area near the Hanuman temple. He sought regular monitoring of the project and coordination among all agencies involved in its execution.

The Chief Minister also directed authorities to construct two foot overbridges (FOBs) on Nehru Path. One is planned near JD Women’s College, while the other will be located at the junction of the High Court roundabout and Bihar Museum.

During the inspection, Choudhary instructed officials to organise construction activities in a coordinated manner to limit inconvenience for residents. He directed them to give priority to traffic management around work sites, uninterrupted pedestrian and vehicular movement, and public safety.

Choudhary described the metro project as important to Patna’s public transport network and said accelerating construction could not come at the expense of quality, safety standards or civic amenities. The inspection was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary, Cooperative Minister Ram Kripal Yadav, and Science, Technology and Technical Education Minister Sheela Kumari.

Senior officials present included Urban Development and Housing and Finance Principal Secretary Vinay Kumar, Road Construction Secretary Pankaj Kumar Pal, Secretary to the Chief Minister Lokesh Kumar Singh, and Patna Metro Rail Project Managing Director Sandeep Kumar R. Pudakalkatti. Patna District Magistrate Kundan Kumar and Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K. Sharma were also present.
