BMRCL Awards Contract for Purple Line Extension Beyond Whitefield

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) has finalised a contract to extend the Purple Line by 482.8 metres beyond the Whitefield metro station in Bengaluru. The short extension will take the line beyond its current terminal at Whitefield, also known as Kadugodi station.

BMRCL awarded the contract on September 17 to Milan Road Buildtech LLP for Rs. 648.2 mn. The bid was 3.7 per cent above the corporation’s estimated cost of Rs. 625.1 mn. The project is scheduled to be completed within 548 days, or 18 months.

The contract follows an earlier tender process in which BMRCL had selected another company in 2024. The corporation later scrapped that award and refloated the tender in June 2026, before opening the bids in July.

Seven companies submitted bids for the work. Four bids were rejected on technical grounds, while two other offers were substantially higher than BMRCL’s estimate, according to details of the tender process.

PJB Engineers quoted Rs. 906.4 mn for the project, while M Rajkumar submitted a bid of Rs. 649.9 mn. Milan Road Buildtech’s offer was therefore the lowest among the technically acceptable bids and was selected despite being higher than the corporation’s initial estimate.

The extension is intended to add a short section beyond Whitefield station on the Purple Line. The available project details do not specify the location of any additional station or the precise facilities to be built as part of the contract. BMRCL’s latest award sets the construction timeline at 18 months from the commencement of the work.

Minister G Kishan Reddy Says No Coal Shortage Despite Higher Power Demand

Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy said India was not facing a coal shortage despite higher demand from thermal power plants, monsoon-related disruptions in mining operations and lower hydropower generation. He said coal was being supplied to power stations through railway rakes and road transport. Reddy made the remarks on Monday on the sidelines of the Assocham-organised Angul Aluminium Roadshow in Kolkata. His comments came amid reports of alleged supply constraints at some power plants, although he said the temporary interruptions should not be interpreted as a broader shortage. ..
