Cabinet Approves Three Railway Projects Worth Rs 90.72 Billion

The Union Cabinet has approved three railway projects worth Rs 90.72 billion (Rs 9,072 crore), covering eight districts in four states. The measures were authorised to strengthen transport infrastructure and to improve connectivity between regional centres. The approvals form part of a wider effort by the government to expand railway capacity and modernise routes. The Cabinet clearance is expected to accelerate approvals for land acquisition and statutory clearances required for project commencement.

Officials said the projects are expected to enhance passenger and freight movement and to support local economic activity in the affected districts. Improvements are likely to include capacity augmentation and track upgrades that would reduce bottlenecks on busy sections. The initiatives are also anticipated to promote investment in ancillary services around stations and logistic hubs. Ancillary improvements may include upgrades to signalling systems and station facilities to handle increased traffic and to enhance passenger experience.

With cabinet clearance secured, the projects will move to the implementation stage under the supervision of the Ministry of Railways and relevant state authorities. Detailed project reports will guide the technical and contractual processes and the procurement of materials and services. Monitoring frameworks are expected to be established to track progress and expenditures. Coordination with state governments and local bodies will be crucial to minimise delays and to integrate the projects with regional development plans.

The approvals covering eight districts in four states align with the government objective of enhancing regional connectivity and supporting economic development. Stakeholders in the transport and logistics sectors will monitor the rollout for opportunities arising from improved rail links. The cabinet decision is set to expedite work on the approved corridors and related infrastructure. Officials will provide periodic progress updates as work advances and as key milestones are reached.
