An official said that the building survey was completed in and around Taramani, Sholinganallur and Perumbakkam, and the survey was completed on Koyambedu market road. These areas are now being prepared for construction.Three teams are working to conduct the surveys in various locations.

The building survey includes counting all types of buildings, and structures across the construction site, the age of these structures and their stability. The experts measure the distance between the construction site and the buildings on either side.

The distance between the centre of the road and the building on the side should be at least 20 feet, or it may be demolished.

Former director of Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL), R Ramanathan, said that the soil condition and vibrations during construction, the buildings are surveyed under three categories. There are the buildings that should be demolished due to poor structural stability, buildings that may survive through the construction period but might get cracks, and those having a good foundation and can withstand the vibrations.

Officials said that some buildings on Kaliamman Koil Street junction that connects Anna Nagar and Chennai Muffusil Bus Terminus (CMBT) might be demolished for an elevated line due to a narrow road.
