Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line Fully Driverless; Pink Line Next in Months

Delhi Metro’s Magenta Line, connecting Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden, has achieved full unattended train operations (UTO), with no drivers onboard. The phased transition began in May 2024 and completed in May 2025, after progressive removal of operator roles.

Automation on the Pink Line, running from Majlis Park to Shiv Vihar, began in March 2025 and is set to be fully driverless within three to four months. Once both lines are automated, Delhi Metro will have 97 km of driverless corridors, making it one of the world’s largest automated metro systems.

DMRC officials say UTO will improve frequency, punctuality, and safety, while reducing manual intervention. Future plans include driverless operations for all three Phase IV priority corridors and additional approved extensions, aiming to deliver a smoother, more reliable commuter experience.
