IIT Hyderabad And Crimson Energy Launch Nuclear Orientation Programme

The Indian Institute of Technology Hyderabad and Pune-based Crimson Energy Experts Pvt Ltd have launched a three-month residential Anugyan?Nuclear Technology Orientation Programme (NTOP) aimed at preparing engineers and industry professionals for the country’s expanding civil nuclear energy sector. The initiative is touted as India’s first industry?academia programme dedicated to equipping engineers for the nuclear sector and seeks to bridge the gap between academic learning and practice. The residential format is designed to provide immersive technical instruction and interaction with practising nuclear professionals.

The intensive curriculum combines academic teaching from IIT?Hyderabad with practical inputs from nuclear specialists at Crimson Energy Experts, and participants who complete the course will receive a joint certification from the two institutions. The programme is open to engineering graduates, working professionals, public sector undertaking executives, engineering, procurement and construction contractors and equipment manufacturers, reflecting a broad industry focus. The fee for the course is Rs 0.35 million (mn), excluding accommodation charges. The organisers have structured the offering to cater to both early career engineers and experienced personnel seeking specialised nuclear training.

IIT?Hyderabad director B. S. Murty described the initiative as reflecting the institute’s commitment to developing future?ready talent aligned with India’s clean energy and energy security goals. Commodore R. D. Mane (retired), president of the Nuclear Division at Crimson Energy Experts, indicated the programme will equip engineers with specialised skills required for next?generation nuclear projects, including Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) and floating nuclear power plants. The course therefore emphasises technical competence in emerging reactor technologies and regulatory compliance.

The tailor?made curriculum comprises 24 modules covering reactor physics, thermal hydraulics, radiation shielding, SMRs, nuclear safety, quality assurance, engineering design, Atomic Energy Regulatory Board regulatory compliance and simulator?based training to reinforce applied learning. The inaugural batch of 25 participants commenced on August three, and the organisers plan to maintain small cohorts for focused instruction. The programme comes as India targets an increase in nuclear generation capacity from about eight point eight gigawatt electrical (GWe) to 100 GWe by 2047 while expanding private participation in the civil nuclear sector.
