Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on the second day of his three-day visit to Chamba performed the Bhoomi Pujan for 15 new road projects of the Public Works Department. He also dedicated a newly constructed 200-bedded modern hospital at Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Government Medical College and Hospital, Chamba, to the public. During the programme at the historic Chougan he laid foundation stones for 15 road projects to be constructed at a cost of approximately Rs 1.75 billion (Rs 1.75 bn) under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana IV and NABARD. The projects include Drabla, Samotha, Fatehpur, Nanan, Seru, Chhatargram, Ghater, Chanjun and Rundega roads. Following the foundation stone ceremony he inaugurated the 200-bedded modern hospital building and outlined that the facility would provide better healthcare to thousands of residents of Chamba, Bharmour, Pangi, Churah and Salooni, significantly reducing the need for serious patients to travel outside the district for treatment. A meeting on the arrangement of modern machinery for the hospital was reported to have been organised. He informed that work to expand the road network in Chamba district was progressing rapidly and that road projects worth Rs 5.91 billion (Rs 5.91 bn) would commence in the next two to three months. He also laid the foundation stone for a parking project valued at Rs 320 million (Rs 320 mn) and emphasised that there was no shortage of funds for development works, attributing progress to sustained efforts by the Vidhan Sabha Speaker and local representatives. He said the state government had sanctioned funds for the medical college in phases totalling Rs 4.56 billion, specifying Rs 1.92 billion, Rs 700 million and Rs 1.94 billion for the first, second and third phases, and that a meeting would be convened to resolve Zila Parishad cadre issues and to formulate a policy for outsourced employees. The event was attended by Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania, MLA Neeraj Nayyar and former ministers Asha Kumari and Thakur Singh Bharmouri and later featured traditional wrestling, the Minjar immersion and the closing cultural evening.
