The decision to shift focus to Yelahanka followed further technical evaluation and stakeholder consultations. Planners said the proximity to existing railway infrastructure at RWF makes the site operationally favourable and reduces the need for extensive new track laying.

Mr Somanna spoke to reporters after flagging off the experimental stoppage of four trains at Nayandahalli and inaugurating a railway overbridge in Vijayanagar, and he framed the Yelahanka plan as part of a broader effort to modernise regional rail assets. Railway sources cautioned that timelines will depend on approvals, funding releases and clearances from civic authorities. The project is expected to catalyse ancillary development around the terminal.
