Jammu Srinagar Direct Vande Bharat Begins Commercial Operation

Jammu and Srinagar are now connected by a direct Vande Bharat Express that began commercial operation amid widespread fanfare, railway officials said. The service was inaugurated on Tuesday and commenced revenue runs between the two cities, providing a new high speed link for passengers. Authorities described the launch as a major step in regional connectivity and said the train incorporates modern amenities designed for passenger comfort. Officials noted improved reliability and faster turnaround on the route.

The Vande Bharat Express is fitted with contemporary seating, enhanced safety systems and on board amenities aimed at reducing travel fatigue. The train runs on electrified tracks and incorporates energy efficient design elements that align with national sustainability goals. Railway planners highlighted the role of upgraded signalling and track maintenance in enabling higher average speeds without compromising safety. Services are arranged to integrate with existing regional schedules to facilitate smoother connections for commuters and tourists.

Officials said the direct service strengthens links between urban centres and pilgrimage sites, creating more convenient travel options for residents and visitors. The service will support local commerce by improving access to markets and services and will ease movement for seasonal travellers. Local administrations were urged to coordinate on last mile connectivity and ancillary services to ensure benefits reach communities along the corridor. Railway officials indicated that maintenance planning and staff training were prioritised ahead of commercial runs.

The service forms part of Indian Railways modernisation initiatives aimed at enhancing passenger experience across the network. Ticketing has been integrated with existing digital platforms and passengers can use standard reservation channels to book seats for regular services. Officials said routine monitoring and feedback mechanisms are in place to address operational issues and guide further improvements where necessary. Ceremonies in both cities marked the launch and acknowledged broad local collaboration efforts.
