Kolkata Metro's April non-fare revenue surges by 38%

According to a statement released by Kolkata Metro, there has been a 38 per cent increase in its non-fare revenue in April this year. Kolkata Metro mentioned that it has positioned itself as a leading entity among all railway zones in the country due to this increase.

The statement conveyed, "Metro Railway, Kolkata mentioned that it had earned Rs 20.72 million in April 2024 as non-fare revenue," noting that the figure was Rs 10.97 million in the corresponding period the previous year.

A spokesperson for Kolkata Metro stated that the organization has been concentrating on generating revenues through various avenues such as branding litter bins at stations, displaying advertisements both inside and outside trains, erecting hoardings in open spaces, and setting up health check-up kiosks at different stations.

Furthermore, the spokesperson mentioned that Kolkata Metro has been branding various points including track sidewalls, card balance checking terminals, and smart card recharge machines. All these efforts have contributed to the increase in non-fare revenue, he added.

Currently, Kolkata Metro operates four lines which include the North-South line, two segments of the East-West line, a portion of the Joka-Esplanade line, and another segment of the New Garia-Bimanbandar line.
