MMRDA Clears Rs 120 Bn Boost for Metro last-mile links

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has approved 19 major infrastructure projects valued at over Rs 120 billion during its Executive Committee meeting held on Tuesday. These initiatives are aimed at accelerating the rollout of Metro corridors and enhancing smart transport systems across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.

The approved projects are expected to stimulate economic activity, improve urban mobility, and elevate the overall quality of life in the region. The investment is seen as a strategic move to develop a more integrated and connected transportation network in Maharashtra.

Key approvals include a Rs 47.88 billion contract awarded to Larsen & Toubro for integrated systems on Metro Line 4 and 4A. This package covers rolling stock, signalling, depot equipment, and five years of maintenance. The civil works for Metro Line 4A were revised to Rs 5.57 billion, while L&T also secured a Rs 1.88 billion contract for ballastless trackwork on the same line.

Metro Line 6 saw two major contracts awarded—IRCON International will handle the power supply and E&M systems under a Rs 6.68 billion agreement, and NCC will provide rolling stock and signalling systems at a cost of Rs 22.69 billion.

Further allocations include Rs 5.35 billion for multi-modal integration works on Metro Line 4 and 4A, distributed across four packages and awarded to various joint ventures. Other key contracts comprise Rs 2.49 billion for automatic fare collection (AFC) systems on Metro Line 4 and 4A (Aurionpro Solutions), Rs 1.18 billion for OHE and power distribution on Metro Lines 9 and 7A (Leena Powertech-Umesh Brothers Consortium), and Rs 990.99 million for ballastless track on Metro Line 2B (Paras Railtech). Additionally, the contract cost for ITS and toll management systems under MTHL Package-4 was revised to Rs 5.51 billion.

The investments are part of MMRDA’s broader strategy to deliver a seamless, sustainable, and inclusive metro and transport infrastructure that supports multimodal connectivity across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region. The authority remains focused on improving last-mile connectivity, speeding up project timelines, and ensuring commuter-friendly infrastructure.
