Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Achieves Milestone with PSC Bridge

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) project has taken a significant step forward with the completion of a 260-metre-long Pre-Stressed Concrete (PSC) bridge over National Expressway-4 near Kosamba, Surat. Executed by MG Contractors Pvt. Ltd. (MGCPL) under Package P1, the bridge was completed on 22nd February 2025.

Key Features of the 5th PSC Bridge The newly completed bridge is the fifth PSC bridge constructed for the MAHSR corridor. Spanning 260 metres, it follows a structural configuration of 50m + 80m + 80m + 50m, comprising 104 precast segments.

A key highlight of this bridge is its Balanced Cantilever Method construction, a technique well-suited for large-span structures. Strategically positioned between Surat and Bharuch Bullet Train stations, this bridge plays a crucial role in maintaining uninterrupted high-speed rail connectivity along the route.

Enhancing India's High-Speed Rail Infrastructure The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project, spearheaded by the National High-Speed Rail Corporation Ltd. (NHSRCL), is India's first high-speed rail corridor. With a designed top speed of 320 km/h, the MAHSR aims to reduce travel time between Mumbai and Ahmedabad to just 2 hours, significantly boosting economic connectivity.

Market Outlook: High-Speed Rail and Infrastructure Development India’s high-speed rail ambitions are driving major investments in advanced infrastructure, including bridges, tunnels, and viaducts. The use of pre-stressed concrete and cutting-edge construction methodologies ensures the durability and efficiency of such mega projects. As urbanisation and economic growth increase the demand for faster intercity travel, India's bullet train network is expected to expand further, attracting both domestic and global investments in rail infrastructure.
