Railways to Use AI Tech for Safer Train Inspections

Indian Railways has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India Limited (DFCCIL) to install a Machine Vision Based Inspection System (MVIS), aimed at improving train safety through automation and real-time monitoring. MVIS is an advanced Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning-enabled system that captures high-resolution images of the undercarriage of moving trains. It automatically detects hanging, missing, or loose components and generates real-time alerts to enable swift preventive measures. This marks the first implementation of such a system by Indian Railways. The technology is expected to greatly enhance operational safety, reduce dependence on manual inspections, and prevent potential service disruptions or accidents.
