RDSO to inspect Mumbai Metro 3 Aqua Line in June

The Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Aqua Line, has gained momentum after successful heavy load tests. The Research, Design & Standards Organisation (RDSO) is scheduled to arrive in the first week of June to evaluate the rolling stock, tracks, and other essential aspects for the first phase of the Metro 3.

It is anticipated that commercial operations for the initial phase, spanning from Aarey to Bandra Kurla Complex, will commence in July. The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) will need clearance certificates, including independent safety assessment certificates, to initiate operations.

Subsequently, the Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) will be invited for the final inspection of the Aqua Line. Once approval is obtained from CMRS, the fleet of 19 metro trains will be deployed for public operations.

The Mumbai Metro Line 3, referred to as the Aqua Line, marks Mumbai's inaugural fully underground metro line. It encompasses a total distance of 33.5 km from Aarey Colony, BKC to Cuffe Parade, incorporating 27 stations (26 underground and 1 at grade).

Upon achieving full operational status, it is projected to serve 1.7 million passengers daily, with 8-coach metro trains running at intervals of 3-4 minutes. The Aqua Line will link key areas, including 6 commercial business districts, 12 educational institutions, 30 employment offices, 10 transportation hubs, 11 major hospitals, and 25 religious and recreational centres.
