Six Namma Metro Lines Planned for Extension

A proposal has been submitted to extend six existing Namma Metro routes in Bengaluru, with the planned links aimed at connecting major industrial zones, satellite towns and emerging growth corridors. Feasibility reports are being prepared for most of the proposed extensions, while one route has reached the detailed project report stage.

The proposed extensions include the 15-km stretch from Challaghatta to Bidadi, the 24-km link between Silk Institute and Harohalli, and the 11-km route from Bommasandra to Attibele. All three projects are currently at the feasibility report stage.

Another proposal would extend the line from Kalena Agrahara to Kadugodi Tree Park by about 68 km. It is the longest of the proposed extensions and remains under feasibility assessment. The Madavara-Tumakuru route, covering about 60 km, has progressed to the detailed project report stage.

The sixth proposed extension would connect K.R Puram with Hoskote via Budigere Cross over an estimated 16 km. The project is also at the feasibility report stage. Together, the proposals are intended to broaden rail access beyond the existing urban network and support planned development around Bengaluru.

The proposed expansion is expected to improve connections to employment and education centres, reduce dependence on roads and support industrial and economic activity along the identified corridors. It would also provide links with satellite towns and allow the new sections to integrate with the existing and future metro network.

The proposals come as the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) prepares for the opening of the Pink Line. The corporation is awaiting inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety before the route can be inaugurated. The line, which was originally expected to open earlier this year, has been delayed and preparations are now being made for a possible launch in October.

Interview with: Lalit Das, Founder & CEO, Agentra AIWhy the next phase of supply chain technology will be about AI that acts, not just advises?Supply chains no longer have a visibility problem. They have a decision-latency problem. It takes about 8.7 hours to detect a disruption and more than 40 more to understand its impact, all before anyone acts. Meanwhile, disruption costs the global economy an estimated $184 billion a year.Enterprises already own excellent systems of record. What they lack is a system of action.
