Survey in Tripura gets completed for second Indo-Bangla rail link

In Tripura, surveys for many railway projects, along with the second Indo-Bangla railway link via the Belonia sub-division of the South Tripura district have been completed by the officials.

Pranajit Singha Roy, Tripura Transport Minister, told the media the State Assembly that Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Railway Minister, is likely to visit the state to inspect the ongoing projects on March 25.

He said the minister could also launch some new projects during his visit.

Kalyani Roy, Chief Whip MLA, moved the attention towards the need to enhance the management of passengers and cargo traffic, including increasing passenger trains via the introduction of double lane rail services across the state.

In terms of new projects in the pipeline, he said that survey work for three new railway projects, including the 30 km Belonia (India) – Feni (Bangladesh), Dharmanagar (North district) – Pancharathal (North district), and Kailashahar (Unakoti district) Railways, has been finished.

Another project is underway to connect Dharmanagar in North Tripura with Belonia in the South district, linking Unakoti, Dhalai, Khowai, and specific areas of the West Tripura district.

The Transport Minister told the house that the survey work of these projects is completed.

On January 21, 2022, Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb made a special request to the Union Railway Minister to incorporate these projects in the Railway Budget and provide significant financial support.

Besides that, the construction works for Nischintapur Railway Yard, connecting Tripura with Akhaura in Bangladesh, are almost complete. He informed that about 98% of the work is finished, and 75% of work for Sabroom Railway Yard has also been completed.

According to the Ministers, all these ambitious projects are likely to be completed by the next financial year (FY).

The 12.30 km Agartala-Akhaura railway link in Bangladesh, which plans to boost passenger and freight engine transportation between these two sites, will be finished soon.

The Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER) and the Ministry of External Affairs has been providing all kinds of assistance to expedite the project's completion.
