VB Gadgil, Chief Executive and Managing Director, L&T Metro Rail (Hyderabad), is oblivious to the dictum of ´racing against time´. As the first 8 km from Nagole and Mettuguda of the Hyderabad Metro is expected to be operational by March this year, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has been directed by the state government to expedite all pending land acquisition issues within the next 45 days to facilitate the implementation of the same. The project status - 1,700 foundations (44 km), 1,600 pillars (42 km) and 1,290 viaduct spans (33 km) have been completed. What´s more, two depots are nearing completion and 18 trains have been received. Slated to be among the world´s largest projects under public-private partnership, the Hyderabad Metro is progressing rapidly. While all this states what an expeditor Gadgil is, he has, for himself, assigned another task; he has envisioned the Metro to have the technology that will enable regeneration of power of up to 40 per cent. So as the clock is busily ticking, Gadgil is ready to lead the race as he visualises ambitious plans for the public transport system.
