Centre Approves 56 New Highway Amenities in Gujarat

The Central Government has approved the development of 501 Wayside Amenities (WSAs) along national highways and expressways across India, with 56 of these facilities planned for Gujarat. This initiative aims to enhance the travel experience by providing essential services such as parking, electric vehicle charging stations, clean restrooms, food courts, and basic medical assistance at intervals of 40 to 60 kilometres along major highways. Currently, 94 WSAs are operational nationwide, including nine in Gujarat. The government plans to increase the total number of WSAs to over 700 by 2029, promoting local employment and supporting small businesses through features like 'Village Haat' zones that showcase regional products.
