Andhra Pradesh Aims to Finish Key Ports by Dec 2026

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has instructed officials to complete Phase 1 works of the Machilipatnam, Ramayapatnam, Mulapeta, and Kakinada Gateway ports by December 2026. The same timeline applies to Phase 1 construction of four fishing harbours—Juvvaladinne, Nizampatnam, Machilipatnam, and Uppada.
Chairing a review meeting at his camp office in Undavalli, the Chief Minister described ports and fishing harbours as vital economic drivers for the state. He urged officials to explore the possibility of upgrading fishing harbours into minor ports, provided the transition does not disrupt the livelihoods of local fishing communities. This move, he said, would boost regional incomes and infrastructure.
Naidu also directed the immediate initiation of Phase 1 works for four new airports in Kuppam, Dagadarthi, Amaravati, and Srikakulam (Palasa). His vision is to develop at least 20 ports and 14 airports throughout Andhra Pradesh to accelerate economic growth.
In addition, the Chief Minister called for the expansion of state roads to meet increasing traffic demand, integrating them with national highways through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. He announced the formation of a dedicated Andhra Pradesh Logistics Corporation, which will oversee development across ports, airports, and fishing harbours. Officials were also directed to draft a heliport development plan in agency areas to enhance tourism potential.

During the meeting, officials shared progress updates on key infrastructure projects:

  • Machilipatnam Port: 43.25 per cent complete, targeted for November 2026 completion
  • Ramayapatnam Port: 63.89 per cent complete
  • Mulapeta Port: 46.59 per cent complete
  • Kakinada Gateway Port: 29.92 per cent complete
  • Juvvaladinne Fishing Harbour: 97.72 per cent complete
  • Nizampatnam Fishing Harbour: 81.17 per cent complete
  • Machilipatnam Fishing Harbour: 69.20 per cent complete
  • Uppada Fishing Harbour: 78.94 per cent complete

With firm timelines and broad infrastructure ambitions, the Andhra Pradesh government aims to position the state as a strategic maritime and logistics hub.
