Centre prepares DPR for interlinking of Godavari and Cauvery rivers

Following talks with the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Government, the Centre is preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR) on interlinking the Godavari and Cauvery rivers.

As reported, the Karnataka Government had allegedly sought out the Supreme Court for the construction of a dam at Mekedatu across the river Cauvery; it had not received a go-ahead from the Environment Ministry. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami, also reportedly made a statement pointing out that the case against the building of the dam filed by the state government was still pending in the Apex Court.

Palaniswami remained firm on the subject and stated that the construction of the dam would, in turn, affect Tamil Nadu and should hence not be allowed.

The linking of the two rivers will not only bring relief to Tamil Nadu but will also resolve the water dispute between the two states.
