Gurugram authority to develop four smart city projects this year

The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has proposed the development of four smart city projects for FY22 at a cost of Rs 69 crore.

The projects include smart water management, implementation of phase-2 of CCTV-based public safety and adaptive traffic management across the city for implementation of adaptive traffic light control system and connectivity at bus shelters and government buildings on an optical fibre network. The costs of the projects will be Rs 19 crore, Rs 30 crore, Rs 10 crore and Rs 10 crore, respectively.

The system will include setting up of a centralised monitoring system with a network across the city. The readings from various control and measuring systems installed within the city network will be transferred online to a centralised monitoring facility at Integrated Control and Command Centre (ICCC).

The CCTV project is in its second phase as GMDA has already installed over 1,000 cameras. Phase-1 of the project aims to install 1,200 CCTV cameras at 222 junctions by the end of June.

Depending on the successful implementation of phase-1, the second phase will cover the remaining 138 locations and install around 800 CCTV cameras during 2021-22, GMDA told the media.

GMDA said the adaptive traffic light control system would help cut down the waiting time at the traffic junctions and ensure that the commuters can cross the junction in a single red light and do not have to wait for longer time periods.

The fourth project includes establishing connectivity at bus shelters, government buildings and other important locations, within the GMDA area, on the captive optical fibre network.
