Jammu Smart City to build eco-friendly structures by Tawi river

In a noteworthy step towards promoting urban sustainability, Jammu Smart City (JSCL) is considering the establishment of green buildings on the reclaimed land and surrounding areas of the Tawi riverfront development project. These green buildings are expected to feature energy-efficient designs, utilise renewable energy sources, and incorporate sustainable construction materials, thereby reducing the carbon footprint and improving the quality of life for residents, the official added.

The Tawi riverfront project, situated in the centre of Jammu, is being developed similarly to Gujarat's Sabarmati riverfront. Its objective is to enhance the aesthetic appeal of the water body by boosting its natural purification capabilities and supporting environmental and urban infrastructure sustainability.

The project also aims to create recreational, residential, commercial, and green spaces on the reclaimed land and the nearby warehouse area. According to the official, under the leadership of JSCL Chief Executive Officer Rahul Yadav, a meeting was organized by JSCL Project Director Sunil Thusoo with the real estate consulting firm CBRE to develop a financial business plan for monetizing the reclaimed land.

The meeting, which was also attended by Deepika Gupta, the additional general manager of urban JSCL, concentrated on detailed discussions about architectural plans, development control regulations, and the incorporation of essential facilities and green spaces.

JSCL, a special purpose vehicle formed in August 2017, is responsible for carrying out development projects aimed at revitalising the city of temples.
