India, Singapore Advance Green Shipping Corridor Plans

In a video address, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal highlighted that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, bilateral ties with Singapore have expanded across multiple sectors. He noted that the India–Singapore Green & Digital Shipping Corridor would accelerate low-emission technology adoption, strengthen digital tools, and transform maritime operations into economic, green, and digital pathways redefining global trade.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis outlined the state’s maritime roadmap, projecting Vadhavan Port to be among the world’s top ten ports from day one of operations. Singapore’s Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong lauded six decades of partnership and emphasised collaboration in green shipping, renewable energy, and innovation, while Acting Minister for Transport Jeffrey Siow confirmed that the upcoming MoU on the Green & Digital Shipping Corridor in September 2025 will establish a strong platform for joint technology and sustainability efforts.

MoPSW Secretary T K Ramachandran stressed the role of international corridors such as the India–Middle East–Europe Economic Corridor (IMEEC), International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), and Eastern Maritime Corridor (EMC) in driving global integration and sustainable development. He noted that the India–Singapore corridor, formalised through a Letter of Intent in March 2025, aligns with both nations’ priorities in clean energy, smart logistics, and digital innovation.

R Lakshmanan, Joint Secretary (Ports), MoPSW, described India Maritime Week as the flagship platform for showcasing India’s maritime capabilities, innovation, and partnerships under the theme “Uniting Oceans, One Maritime Vision.” JNPA Chairman Unmesh Sharad Wagh emphasised the need for greener, smarter, and more connected corridors.

The day featured sessions on maritime reforms, infrastructure progress, and international cooperation, along with panel discussions on resilient and sustainable corridors. India Maritime Week 2025 will run from 27 to 31 October at the Bombay Exhibition Centre, Mumbai, fostering innovation, policy dialogue, and investment under the Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and the Indian Ports Association (IPA), under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), hosted the “Leaders’ Dialogue on Green & Digital Maritime Corridors” in Mumbai, paving the way for India Maritime Week 2025 in October.
