Andhra to Get First E-Waste Facility at MedTech Zone

Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) in Visakhapatnam will host the state’s first integrated electronic waste management facility, setting a national benchmark in sustainable e-waste processing. The initiative, jointly launched by Andhra Pradesh Pollution Control Board (APPCB) Chairman Dr P Krishnaiah and AMTZ Managing Director Dr Jitendra Sharma, aims to tackle growing e-waste challenges through innovative and eco-friendly solutions.

Developed in collaboration with the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, the facility will use advanced mechanical and chemical technologies to recover high-purity metals from discarded electronics. It is India’s first such facility within a medical technology park.

Built on a “Zero Waste” operational model, the facility ensures full traceability and regulatory compliance through a unified digital platform. It connects producers, consumers, and processors while offering doorstep collection and real-time valuation of electronic waste, allowing users to receive instant monetary compensation.

The project is expected to create employment, promote circular economy practices, and enhance AMTZ’s role as a hub for sustainable industrial development. It supports India’s goal of achieving self-sufficiency in both medical manufacturing and environmental responsibility.
