Brahmaputra River Development Project to transform Northeast Riverfront

The much-anticipated Brahmaputra River Development Project in the Northeast region is on the verge of receiving a significant boost as strategic entry gates are planned along its course. This ambitious project aims to revitalise the riverfront, creating a vibrant and well-designed area that will promote tourism, economic activities, and provide recreational spaces for residents.

Overseen by Guwahati Smart City (GSCL), the project is being executed by the renowned Italian-Thai Development Public Company (ITD), a prominent real estate and construction firm from Thailand.

An insider from ITD Cementation India shared with G Plus, "This project is set to be nothing short of marvellous, with an international touch."

The project involves the efforts of more than 100 individuals, including engineers, who are dedicated to its successful implementation.

Estimated at Rs 3.7 billion, the development encompasses several crucial elements, including the construction of a 15-meter wide boulevard, retaining walls, and connecting ramps. These features will not only enhance accessibility but also provide breath-taking views of the majestic Brahmaputra River.

To cater to the convenience of tourists and locals alike, four amenity buildings will be erected along the 1.2-kilometer stretch of the development. These buildings will house essential facilities such as restrooms, food stalls, and information centres, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience for visitors.

Moreover, the project includes the transformation of the Uzan Bazar fish market, the largest fish market in the area. This redevelopment will not only improve the livelihoods of local fishermen but also create a modern and organised space for buyers and sellers.

As part of the overall plan, seven entry gates with guard rooms will be strategically positioned at five different locations, one of which will also serve as an emergency exit. These entry gates will serve as symbolic entrances to the region, warmly welcoming visitors while showcasing the rich cultural and natural heritage of Northeast India.

Safety and security will be prioritised throughout the development project. Area lighting will be thoughtfully installed, ensuring visibility and creating a safe environment for tourists, locals, and vendors during evening hours.

Though the project's commencement is still a few years away, with an expected date of March 16, 2025, anticipation is steadily growing among the local community and stakeholders. The Brahmaputra River Development Project is viewed as a crucial step towards unlocking the region's tourism potential and fostering economic growth.
