Consultant assigned to prepare project report on new STP

The Tiruchi City Corporation has hired a consultant to design and construct a new sewage treatment plant (STP) at Panjapur to replace the outdated one that will be demolished once an integrated bus terminal is constructed.

In 1995, as part of phase-I of the underground drainage project, the Tiruchi Corporation built the current STP on a sizable portion of its land. It has an 87 MLD capacity. The STP releases the treated sewage water into the waste stabilisation ponds after processing the sewage collected in the project regions. A component of the cleaned water is absorbed by the open ponds, and a different portion is absorbed by the heat. The Corporation processed 57 of the 87 MLD using only a part of the property.

The Corporation has chosen to close the STP and construct a new STP at a remote corner of 570 acre of land it owns in Panjapur due to the choice of the site where the current STP operates for the construction of the Integrated Bus Terminus project.
