Birla Corp launches Rs 2,744 cr Mukutban cement plant

Birla Corporation Ltd, the flagship company of the MP Birla Group, on Friday launched its 3.9-million tonne Mukutban integrated cement facility with an investment of Rs 2,744 crore in Maharashtra.

The greenfield plant of Reliance Cement Company Private Limited (RCCPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the cement generator, takes the group's total established capacity to 20 million tonne per annum. It will be the fourth integrated cement plant of the group and the biggest single line or kiln cement facility in Maharashtra by capacity. It will be powered by a 2 x 20-megawatt thermal captive power facility, as per the firm's statement. The cement producer did not specify any time frame by when the maximum 3.9 million tonne capacity would be achieved.

After the lighting up of the kiln at the facility, MP Birla Group Chairman Harsh V Lodha said the project is a crucial milestone in the annals of the Kolkata-headquartered firm. It is one of the most developed cement plants in India in terms of technology and efficiency parameters, it said.

The firm and its subsidiary, RCCPL, have 11 cement facilities at eight locations across the nation, with a yearly installed capacity of 20 million tonnes. It makes the building material under the 'MP Birla Cement' brand and additionally provides construction chemicals and wall putty. The subsidiary is the result of the procurement of Anil Ambani- owned Reliance Cement Company Private Limited.
