West Bengal's coal reserves to be a game-changing for state's growth

West Bengal's coal, coal bed methane and shale gas reserves are poised to be transformative for the state, according to Amit Mitra, Principal Chief Advisor to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. During an interactive session on Investment Opportunities in West Bengal with diplomats, organised by the state government in collaboration with FICCI, Mitra highlighted the significant investment potential in the region.

Mitra emphasised that West Bengal possesses the world's second-largest coal reserves, and the discovery of shale gas reserves will further bolster the state's mining industry. The event drew participation from representatives of 42 countries.

Additionally, Mitra revealed that the Bengal Global Business Summit 2023, slated for later in the year, will showcase the state's capabilities and potential across various sectors. When asked about support from the Union Government for the summit, Mitra expressed openness to their involvement, citing past participation by the President and Finance Minister as examples of cooperation between the state and federal authorities.
