Kerala Government Steps To Tackle Power Crisis

Kerala’s electricity ministry has attributed the State’s current power crisis to policies pursued by the previous Left Democratic Front government and said the incumbent administration is implementing measures at multiple levels to address supply shortfalls. The Electricity Minister Sunny Joseph indicated that the situation stems largely from earlier policy decisions and that remedial steps are under way. He said the response covers immediate operational adjustments and longer term planning. Officials have been instructed to coordinate closely with local authorities to expedite remedial work and restore normal operations.\n\nThe government’s immediate priority is to ensure an uninterrupted electricity supply as demand continues to rise across the State. The minister stated that authorities are prioritising the avoidance or minimisation of power restrictions to prevent consumer inconvenience. Coordination with distribution units and grid operators has been highlighted as a key element of the response. Priority has been given to vulnerable consumers and critical services when scheduling adjustments.\n\nThe measures being pursued include enhanced load management, revised demand forecasting and expedited procurement where necessary, the minister noted. Officials are examining short term purchase options and operational tweaks to stabilise the grid while longer term capacity and efficiency plans are readied. The minister emphasised that every effort is being made to maintain reliability and avert planned outages. The approach combines tactical interventions with policy adjustments intended to reduce the risk of recurrence.\n\nAdministrators are monitoring demand trends closely and adjusting operational protocols to respond to evolving needs. The government intends to balance immediate supply obligations with medium term investments in resilience and planning while seeking to minimise financial and social impact on consumers. Officials said mitigation efforts aim to restore stability and ensure consistent access to electricity across the State. Public communication and transparent reporting on progress are being prioritised to reassure households and businesses across the State.
